Yamaha Outboards, Skeeter And G3 Boats To Sponsor B.A.S.S. Tournaments
KENNESAW, Ga., 4/18/01 < Yamaha Marine Groupıs Yamaha Outboard Motors, along
with its Skeeter brand of high-performance bass boats have both been named
official sponsors of B.A.S.S. and its more than 20,000 fishing tournaments
worldwide, starting with the 2001 BASS Masters Classic in August.
Yamaha Outboards will be an official outboard motor of all B.A.S.S.
tournaments, including the BASS Masters Classic, along with Mercury.
"Teaming up with B.A.S.S. to promote fishing is a great opportunity," said
Yamaha Marine Group President Phil Dyskow. "Our new association with
B.A.S.S. provides a strong venue to demonstrate to bass anglers worldwide
that Yamaha outboards and Team Yamaha pro anglers are proven performers.
Itıs definitely a win-win situation. Itıs going to be great for the sport
and for our customers."
Skeeter Boats will be one of two bass boat brands sponsoring the
BASSMASTER Tournament Trail with its first appearance being the BASS Masters
Classic in August in New Orleans.
"Weıre excited to join as an official sponsor of B.A.S.S. Most of our owners
are B.A.S.S. members and have proven their loyalty over the years, so itıs
another opportunity for us to put something back into the sport we all love
most," said Jeff Stone, Skeeter vice president, general manager. "We also
expect this new partnership in tournament fishing to do much good for the
sport. Our dealers support what we are doing as do our pros. The exposure
for Skeeter is going to be phenomenal."
Dyskow added, "Having Skeeter become a sponsor of B.A.S.S. seems like a
match made in heaven. It will give owners and fans of Team Skeeter even more
incentive to get involved in B.A.S.S. Combine this with the addition of
other fine sponsors as well as ESPN and it is sure to ignite new interest in
fishing. Yamaha and Skeeter pros who reach the Classic this year will, for
the first time, compete from their sponsorıs boats and motors.
Yamaha pro Dean Rojas, who recently set the B.A.S.S. tournament record for
largest tournament catch, said of the new sponsorship, "One of the best
things about being part of Team Yamaha, next to driving its extremely
reliable outboards, is the attitude of everyone at Yamaha about fishing.
Itıs a company thatıs dedicated to bringing more people into the sport and
promoting the benefits of fishing.
"With Yamaha now an official sponsor of the Classic and B.A.S.S., itıs going
to be great seeing Yamaha-powered boats pulling up to the weigh-ins each
day. And Iım going to do all that I can to make sure Iım in one of them."
Skeeter pro Jay Yelas, a familiar winner on the BASSMASTER Trail, said that
the changes at B.A.S.S., with the addition of Yamahaıs brands and other new
sponsors, will enhance the fun and competition at these tournaments.
"I think weıre going to see a boom in bass fishing. All these new sponsors,
and the sharp pros they sponsor, canıt help but attract new fans. Once we
get them interested, theyıre going to be hooked on bass fishing. B.A.S.S.
already has over 600,000 members around the world, and thatıs bound to grow.
Yamahaıs aluminum fishing boat brand G3, will also become a familiar sight
as an associate sponsor of the B.A.S.S. tournament trail. Terry Ickes, G3ıs
general manager, said they are very excited that this association will give
them the opportunity to demonstrate the performance advantages of their
boats, a huge positive move for the company. "Weıre going to let tournament
anglers who prefer aluminum fishing boats know that G3 is there for them on
the B.A.S.S. tournament trail. Although G3 isnıt a Classic boat sponsor,
B.A.S.S. will allow any pro angler who runs a G3 and makes the Classic to
compete in an aluminum G3 boat. He or she will make bass fishing history."
