TAKE PRIDE IN LAKE OKEECHOBEE Event Date: Saturday, 24
March, 2001 525 Ridgelawn Road Clewiston, FL 33440 (863) 983-8101 Join the Take Pride in Lake Okeechobee Committee and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the South Florida Operations Office in Clewiston for the 15th annual Take Pride in Lake Okeechobee celebration. Community organizations, school groups, and individuals are invited to enjoy a day filled with exciting environmental activities for both the young and the young at heart. This year, scouting and community groups are invited to camp-out on the Herbert Hoover Dike near the South Florida Operations Office on the night of Friday, 23 March. Interested parties should contact Park Ranger Justin D. McBride. A free lunch will be provided and awards will be given in various categories for group and individual participation. Awards Ceremony
NATIVE TREE/VEGETATION PLANTING- Assist U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Biologists in planting native trees and vegetation around the office. Several different types of vegetation will be planted and biologists will be on hand to direct the plantings and give explanations of the activities. This activity is recommended for volunteers above the age of 12. WILDLIFE BOXES- Help Corps employees construct various boxes for wildlife habitat. In the past Take Pride Volunteers have helped construct Bat Boxes, Wood Duck Boxes and Osprey Platforms. These boxes will be installed in areas around the lake as habitat. This activity is recommended for ages 14 and under. ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS BAGS- The Corps is working with local grocery stores to get the message of environmental responsibility throughout the community. Participant will create an environmental message on a paper grocery bag and then the Corps will return the bags to local stores for distribution throughout the community. This activity is suitable for all ages. ENVIROGAMES- Learn about wildlife and habitat management through a series of games. Join Corps of Engineers Biologists and Park Rangers as they lead groups through a variety of different games designed to educate students on the complexities of wildlife management. This activity is suitable for all ages. AFTERNOON ENTERTAINMENT- Environmental booths will be set up for
volunteers to learn more about Lake Okeechobee & the Surrounding Area.

Reynolds will be one of the speakers at the event. An awards ceremony for participants will be held at 1:00pm. -
